History
The shipyard was founded as a family business in 1918 in Makkinga, in the northern Netherlands.
In 1991, Kommer Damen, owner of Damen Shipyards, acquired Amels and integrated it into the Damen Shipyards Group. Despite the change in ownership, the brand name was retained, and a successful development strategy was put in place.
In 2005, the shipyard introduced the Amels Limited Edition series, bridging the gap between custom and semi-custom projects while setting high standards for yachts up to 55 meters in length. This series utilizes a proven platform, with interiors tailored to the client's specifications, optimizing the build process and significantly reducing the time from order to delivery.
Capitalizing on the success of the Limited Edition series, Amels built and delivered 25 hulls of the popular Amels 180 model in just 15 years. The shipyard has since expanded its range, introducing two new models: the Amels 60, delivered in 2022 as M/Y COME TOGETHER, and the Amels 80, which is scheduled to launch in 2025.
In 2008, the Yacht Support line was introduced, followed by the SeaXplorer series of expedition yachts in 2015.
In 2019, all yacht lines within Damen Group were consolidated into a single division, Damen Yachting.

Facilities
Amels boasts two dry docks (204 and 145 meters in length) with direct sea access, as well as two covered assembly halls capable of accommodating yachts up to 200 meters. The shipyard employs a team of 1,500 skilled professionals to ensure the highest standards in yacht construction and maintenance.
Range
Amels is one of the few Northern European shipyards that builds top-tier motor yachts in both the full-custom and semi-custom segments. This allows clients to choose between a fully bespoke project or a streamlined, optimized process for a new model.
Among their custom offerings, the 83-meter flagship M/Y HERE COMES THE SUN, delivered in 2017, stands out as one of the largest yachts ever built in the Netherlands. Another notable vessel is the 74-meter M/Y ILONA, which features a helicopter landing pad and was launched in 2004.
