History
In 1863, German immigrant Henry Burger founded H. Burger Shipyard to meet the high demand from local fishermen for sailboats. The company became widely known as Burger Boat Company 60 years later, in 1915.
By 1949, Burger introduced its first series of luxury yachts with steel hulls. A decade later, the shipyard shifted to building hulls from aluminum, a new material at the time.
In 1977, Burger launched the largest aluminum yacht in the U.S. at that time—the 38-meter M/Y ARARA. This groundbreaking yacht made a significant impact, leading to a surge in orders and production growth. By 1990, Burger Boat Company was responsible for 47% of all motor yachts over 24 meters built in the U.S. However, the company faced setbacks due to an unsuccessful acquisition by United Shipbuilders of America and the loss of military contracts, resulting in a production halt until 1993, when businessmen David Ross and Jim Ruffolo acquired the assets and resumed yacht construction.
Since then, Burger Boat Company has regained its prominence, launching over 40 new yachts. Currently, the shipyard is building two new hulls of THE BURGER 180’, set to be launched in 2025.
