History
Founded in 1870 in Shanghai, Cheoy Lee began as a small workshop for repairing and building wooden boats. Just 80 years later, the shipyard shifted its focus to producing fiberglass sailing and motor yachts. By 1990, Cheoy Lee had fully transitioned to specializing in motor superyachts.
In 1977, Cheoy Lee launched the Shango II, a 40-meter sailing yacht that was the largest composite yacht of its time. Just two years later, the shipyard introduced the first production yacht made from composites with a foam core.
In 1996, Cheoy Lee relocated its operations to Zhuhai, on the mainland of China. There, in 2003, the shipyard launched its first motor superyacht from the new facility, the 38-meter M/Y JANET (now known as M/Y NAMOH).
Throughout its history, Cheoy Lee has built over 5,200 vessels, with 65% of them measuring over 33 meters in length.

Facilities
Cheoy Lee's main production site is the Hin Lee shipyard, located in Zhuhai, near Hong Kong. The 65,000 square meter facility houses assembly hangars, metal and composite fabrication shops, and specialized workshops with over 1,000 highly skilled workers. This allows the company to build, equip and maintain yachts up to 70 meters in length solely from its own facilities.
The headquarters and a small service center of Cheoy Lee are located in Hong Kong.
