Hakvoort was founded by Albert Kölnz Hakvoort in 1919 as a family business specializing in the construction of fishing boats at a shipyard he acquired on the shores of Lake IJsselmeer in Monnickendam.
It wasn't until 1980 that the shipyard transitioned to building custom yachts. The company's reputation was solidified with the launch of the superyacht Lady Marina in 1994, which garnered significant attention and acclaim.
In 2019, Hakvoort undertook a major modernization of its facilities to accommodate larger projects and incorporate new yacht-building technologies. The following year, the company rebranded as Royal Hakvoort Shipyard, earning the "Royal" designation, which is awarded to family businesses with over 100 years of providing exceptional services to their clients.
Throughout its history, Hakvoort has launched more than 250 luxury yacht hulls.

Facilities
The Hakvoort shipyard is located on the shores of Lake IJsselmeer, just 8 miles from Amsterdam. The facility includes two covered assembly halls, a metalworking shop, and a woodworking workshop, employing over 90 skilled professionals. This setup allows Hakvoort to build up to two hulls per year.
In addition to new builds, Hakvoort also offers repair and maintenance services for luxury yachts.

Hakvoort specializes in building semi-custom and full-custom yachts ranging from 30 to 65 meters, with a strong emphasis on quality craftsmanship.
Some of the shipyard's most iconic yachts include M/Y Pretty Woman, M/Y Perle Blue, Jamsa, M/Y Flamingo Daze, M/Y Tigre d'Or, Saga, M/Y Campbell Bay, M/Y Solaia, M/Y Mandarine, M/Y Lady Duvera III, M/Y Spada, M/Y Freesia, M/Y Yosma, M/Y Lady Marina, and the 61-meter M/Y Just J, which currently stands as the flagship of Hakvoort. The most recent launches include the 45-meter M/Y Milele (2023) and the 61-meter M/Y Top Five II (2021).
