Description
Project MASTER is an expedition yacht conversion based on the Norwegian emergency and rescue vessel MV Havila Tigris (2001), originally built for North Sea operations and previously operated by Atlantic Offshore. The ongoing reconstruction aims to transform the vessel into a modern explorer with extended scientific capabilities. The project is being developed in collaboration with Espen Øino, Winch Design, and ICON/Conoship.

Measuring 70 meters with a gross tonnage of approximately 2,801 GT, the vessel offers around 1,555 m² of interior space, including nearly 1,000 m² of guest areas and more than 560 m² dedicated to crew and service functions. Accommodation is planned for 12 guests and 25 crew members. With a range of approximately 6,700 nautical miles at 10 knots, MASTER is designed for extended autonomous expeditions.

The conversion introduces a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system compliant with IMO Tier III standards. Five generators feed two Voith eVSP drives, delivering efficient operation, low noise, and precise maneuverability, including DP mode, essential for scientific missions, filming, and operations in remote regions.

Scientific functionality is significantly expanded: the vessel will feature a modern laboratory, training room, accommodation for research teams, and submersible storage systems. The configuration is being developed in partnership with Cookson Adventures and SeaKeepers.

Project MASTER also offers extensive expedition logistics: capacity for an EC145 helicopter, tenders up to 11.5 meters, and a full suite of watercraft. Storage areas and workspaces allow the platform to be adapted for diverse missions - from polar navigation to tropical expeditions and sporting activities.

Remaining under the 3,000 GT threshold, MASTER benefits from simplified operational requirements. The conversion prioritizes efficient use of the original vessel’s structure and reduced environmental impact, aligning with the project’s focus on research and conservation initiatives.

Project MASTER represents a high-tech expedition platform with capabilities far exceeding those of traditional superyachts - designed for owners who value autonomy, safety, functionality, and the ability to support scientific exploration.
